Hello Kajek. Could you introduce yourself?
Hey man, my name is Michał Wojnowski and I`m 23 years old.
Are you doing sth right now? School, work, antyhing?
Right now I`m really learning a lot. This year I started Medical Studies in Czestochowa, and I have been studying Advertising/Commerce for 2 years now in Krakow. What is more I work at my mother`s company.
We all know that yoy have been skating for a very long time, tell us how did it start?
I got my first pair of skates somewhere around `93. But it wasn`t until 94-95 and Hoax videos when I started to treat it seriously, and saw how cool it was to do rocket fishes and throw Mistys`
What size of the skate, frame do you wear? Do you tight your skates hard?
I skate 43 size shell, and the L size frame. I used to do up laces rather hard and let the buckle loose, but now I`m skating Xsjados and it is completely different.
Do you belong to those people who prefer to have their front wheel sticking out a lot or you just don`t care about it at all?
I prefer when it is sticking out, but I guess you can get used to everything.
Everybody has sth particular to like about skating; gaps, grinds, ledges, rails. Tell us what do you like most, maybe your favourite spot?
I like to grind . Ledges and rails all the way – that’s way my favourite spot is Parkitka, the spot with all mentioned above and huge drop kink rail, I skate there everyday. I also loved the WTC spot in Amsterdam.
Well, nowadays there is a lot of talking about tight and XXL pants etc. Often it is done just from the need of naming the thing which is not yet labeled. This what in Poland is called ‘punkstyle’, has nothing to do with real punks, yet people tend to use this to label rollerbalders who are not skating in large clothes. How would you define your style? I never have been a Punk, and I never will be one. I listen to some hiphop yet I will not be a rapper either. I like loose clothes just to feel comfortable. During your carrer you have been skating with many Pros. There were some who you got to know closer. Was there someone who influenced you and your skating? Well first of all I think such meetings really can result in some good experience. When you skate with the guys who you was looking up to as a teenager, can really motivate you to skate harder and to progress but I don`t think that any of Pros changed my attitude to rolling, I`m just happy that I could meet them. Imagine that you are in Paris, France at well-known Bercy together with all most famous skaters from all around the world. Who and with what trick you want to see the most? Really I have no idea…
Recently there a lot of new skateparks being made here in Poland. It helps to get some new guys to the sport. Unfortunatelly huge majority of those places just suck… What in your opinion is needed or should be improved to make new parks really good?
Well, first of all there should be at least one good obstacle to grind like big grindbox with rails etc and not some tiny, ankle-high square box. Also all the spins ramps and wide mini ramps are important just to learn how to get good flow in the park. All parks should be made in such way to use it for a long time.
More and more people go abroad to find a job, you know many rollerbladers who left Poland and are staying in some other country working, skating. Have you ever considered such idea? Yes, I have been to such ‘trips’ two times, once in Sweden and once in London, both were failure for me so I just came back home. In general if sb really wants and know a language a litle, it`s possible to have a better life there. High five to Szymor and Suchy.
We`ve been to many parties together, tell us about what do you like to drink? Btw Coke or Pepsi ? Hmm, I like to drink beer with redbull now. COKE Being a skater does not let us to stay a lot at home, usually during lunch time, tell us about your favourite food ! Fastest way is just to eat at some Gasstation, grab a hotdogs or go to one of my favourite bar “pierozek’ and eat some dumplings with kefir.
Ten years ago we skated litlle pracitice rails near Dunczyk`s home, we did makios on curbs, learn how to do a bio on the grass and rocket backslide was the coolest thing to do. I guess nobody thought that someday we would be doing some interview on the biggest polish online-mag, don`t you think it turned out good? It`s the best to recall old times, how we used to skate full speed from Jasna Góra, and just rolling around. I`m happy that I still have someone to talk about those times. Everything has changed completely – our city has many new skaters, we get expousure in whole Europe, we are doing pretty good at comps and of course I`m happy with the fact that I`m being interviewed. You have had many opportunities to skate various spots in foreign countries. Do you see some differences, if yes what are they ? Of course there are. Let`s start with very bad approach or landing to spots here. Secondly if there is some good place to skate, it is usually carefully guarded and unskatableI guess polish mentality has a lot to do about it too, though last time when we filmed some clips in Katowice, suddenly some guard showed up and told us that if we didn`t manage to record all tricks its all good because the video camera near the entrance to that building has everything! How cool was that!
